Horse’s today in developed countries have become elite competition athletes who are often supported by a team of health and industry professionals who work together to keep the horse in peak health to allow for optimum performance. Musculoskeletal injury and lameness is the leading cause for horse’s being unable to continue training and competition.
Equine myofunctional or, massage therapy is an alternative therapy which addresses musculoskeletal dysfunction through the use of myofascial release, remedial and sports massage to help repair, improve and maintain the health and longevity of each individual horse throughout every stage of its life.
Massage is widely used in both human and veterinary fields where it is believed to have numerous physiological and psychological effects including reduction of muscle tension and soreness, relief of post exercise muscle spasms, increased flexibility and range of motion and improved general wellbeing.
Massage can assist in addressing issues such as saddle fit damage, poor muscle development, muscle atrophy, biomechanical dysfunction, behavioural, nervous and digestive system upsets, age related issues, joint and skeletal imbalances/ dysfunction and poor posture.
